The United States of America has just made another statement against China’s stand on the independent island of Taiwan which the latter clames is its territory and as such holds powers over it.Nancy Pelosi who is the speaker of the House of Representatives landed in Taiwan under heavy military security two days ago.
China is bent on taking control of Taiwan as it did with Hong Kong a few years back when activists in Hong Kong staged protests demanding independence from the mainland.
Pelosi went on to make a speech in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital where she made it clear that the US government supports the independence of Taiwan and any contravention of such freedoms will be met by retaliation by the United States of America.
Xi Jinping,China’s president had prior to Pelosi’s visit made it crystal clear that the hotly contested visit by Pelosi would be considered a violation of China’s interests and directives.
True to his word, a day after Pelosi’s speech, Chinese Defence Forces have lodged what they are terming as military drills around Taiwan.Let it be remembered that just before Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia was claiming that it was only conducting military exercises around Ukraine’s border.I guess those drills really did turn into real life action-we are six months into the war between Russia and Ukraine.
It is also prudent to note that Russia is China’s greatest ally as are Taiwan and Ukraine to America.See where I’m going with this?Proxy wars maybe?
