Kenya at Cross-Roads: General Elections-Presidential Chapter.

It is that time again.Kenya is set to hold the 2022 General Elections for all levels i.e parliamentary, senatorial, county assembly representatives, women representatives and the for the top most job, the presidency this Tuesday 9th.

This particular elections boils down to two major coalitions;the Kenya Kwanza team led by the current deputy president, William Samoei Ruto and the Azimio la Umoja team led by the former prime minister Raila Amolo Odinga. Both teams seem to have swayed large numbers of Kenyans to their teams with the last polls from Tifa indicating only a six percent difference between the two highly preferred candidates Raila and Ruto with Raila in the lead.Unfortunately for the two top presidential candidates, if the polls are anything to go by, none of the candidates has a 50% +1 majority required to secure the presidency which may lead to a run-off.Just to be clear, there are two other presidential candidates namely George Wajackoyah of Roots Party and David Mwaure of Agano Party.

Tuesday the 9th August will however be a decisive moment for Kenyans with most unemployed youth and the informal sector workers(Hustlers as they are commonly referred) predominantly vouching for Kenya Kwanza with William Ruto. The Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga who has been endorsed by the outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta seems is a favourite among the elderly(50 years and beyond) as well as his ever loyal supporters from his backyard in Luo,Nyanza.

It remains to be seen however how parliamentary seats will be distributed among the two coalitions which would make one of the two a powerful opposition or lead to a coalition government or another handshake as in the case in 2017.The handshake between Raila and incumbent Uhuru to in 2017 in the midst of heavily disputed election is considered to be the main reason for the conflict between the president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during their second term in office. The term was marred by poor development, rising costs of living, debt increments and political sideshows.

Raila Odinga is predominantly viewed as a state project while William Ruto is considered a man of the people, especially the economically unstable. This will be a battle of the Titans.Over to you Kenyans.
