Mark Zuckerberg just renamed Facebook to Meta.According to him,the name Facebook does not encompass all that the company does now as was the case during its infancy.
Now, Meta(Facebook) owns Instagram,WhatsApp and Messenger among others.As such Meta is the best brand name to accommodate all other businesses that Facebook does.
Mark announced this change at the Connect 2021 event.”We are a company that builds technology to connect,” Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”
This comes amidst a legal storm that has hit the company after recently being questioned by the US Senate on its role in child exploitation.Facebook had to halt its launch of Instagram Kids-a kind of Instagram designed specifically for under 13’s-in light of this allegations by a whistleblower.
It remains to be seen if Meta will shake its rough beginning with the senate hearings still ongoing as at this time.All in all,you need to get used to Meta now,forget Facebook.
