Fresh off a momentous and historic victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, leaders and ecstatic supporters of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) took to the streets to celebrate a win that has fundamentally rewritten the region’s political landscape.
The celebratory caravan brought business to a standstill in key towns across Mbeere, drawing massive crowds of jubilant residents. The DCP brigade made triumphant entries into Kiritiri, Kanyuambora, and Ishiara, turning the markets into seas of celebration. The roadshow served not just as a victory lap for the Ol Kalou seat, but as a bold statement of intent for the 2027 General Election. Local leaders, mobilized youths, and boda boda operators joined in the convoy, matching the high-octane energy that has characterized the party’s recent political resurgence in the Mt. Kenya region.
Confirming the Ol Kalou Margins: A Landslide Victory
The celebrations in Mbeere are well-justified by the sheer scale of the victory recorded in Nyandarua County. Dubbed a high-stakes proxy war between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the DCP, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) results confirmed a staggering landslide.
DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru Ngotho decisively clinched the seat by securing 35,440 votes. His closest rival, Samuel Muchina Nyagah of the ruling UDA party, managed just 5,450 votes.
This represents an overwhelming margin of 29,990 votes, with the DCP candidate trouncing the government-backed candidate by nearly seven times the number of votes cast. The Jubilee Party candidate finished a distant third with 198 votes, while the remaining field divided the rest of the ballots. Despite a tense voting day, voter turnout stood strong at 56.7%, locking in a historic first parliamentary by-election win for the DCP against the dominant UDA.
