PUTIN FLEXING MUSCLES AGAIN?

Vladmir Putin, president of the Russian Federation.

Belarus-Poland migrant crisis.

For weeks on end now, migrants from various countries including Iraqi Kurdistan, Asia and Africa have been held up at the border between Belarus and Poland with the Polish military ensuring they do not access the European Union. The migrants say they were promised passage by the Belarusian police to Poland. Some of the 2000 or so migrants claim they were escorted to the border with Poland by Belarus state authorities after which they were left to cross.

Stranded migrants at the border of Belarus and Poland.

Unfortunately for them, the Polish military was hot on their heels and ended up blocking them by using teargas, pepper sprays and erecting a barbed wire. With winter fast approaching, the conditions for the migrants are worsening by the day as they can’t go back to Belarus and can’t proceed to Poland. They are sandwiched in between and say they have to get into the European Union having fled their countries in pursuit of a better life in Europe.
The European Union claims that the Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko instigated the crisis to compel the commission to lift sanctions against Belarus for his role in abduction of dissident journalist Roman Protasevich on May 23rd this year.
Roman Protasevich is a staunch critic of president Lukashenko’s regime which is marred by corruption allegations and human rights abuses. The activist was flying to Poland when the plane he was flying in was intercepted by Belarusian military aircraft and ordered to land after which he was detained without charges levelled against him.
By the way, Belarus under president Lukashenko is not a member of the European Union. The commission alleges that Lukashenko is however just a pawn in the game set in motion by the Russian president Vladmir Putin.Putin and Lukashenko are close buddies and it is likely Putin is the man behind the curtain.

Ukrainian border with Russia under new threat.

The migrant crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border is only the beginning of the problems for the European Union and the West. Jens Stoltenberg, the current NATO secretary general, raised concerns earlier on Wednesday about a Russian military build up on the border of Russia and Ukraine. He warned that any attempts by Russia to invade Ukraine would be met by harsh resistance by NATO. In their response, the Russian foreign ministry said that Russia had no such intentions.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine on his part says that he is ready to engage in talks with Russia to avoid bloodshed. He also alleged of a plot to have him dethroned by use of a military coup incited by Russian backed billionaires .
Ukraine has a really small military might as compared to Russia. It’s a classic David versus Goliath story. As of 2nd December 2021, an estimated 90,000 Russian troops are said to be at the border.Luckily for Ukraine, the West(USA) and EU have promised their support where the threat is no longer tenable.

‘Little green men’

The ‘little green men’ as they were popularly coined back in 2014 when they annexed Crimea.

However, this is not the first time that Vladmir Putin is flexing his muscles against Ukraine. Back when Barrack Obama was president, he sent ‘little green men’ as they were commonly referred by the locals to the border with Ukraine. The little green men did not speak to anyone and had no insignia to show what country they belonged to. They also wore balaclava and patrolled the Ukrainian border for months. It was however apparent to the international community they were Russian paramilitary by the weapons they possessed.
When Obama confronted Putin about it, Putin denied any knowledge of the little green men. They eventually annexed Crimea from Ukraine and it is said a large part of the new military build up is stationed there.
Now NATO, the EU and the USA are on high alert as to what Putin is really up to.
