London, April 13, 2025 — Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has arrived in the United Kingdom to participate in high-stakes diplomatic discussions aimed at brokering peace in war-torn Sudan.
The visit comes amid renewed international efforts to end the year-long conflict between rival military factions that has devastated the northeastern African nation, displaced millions, and sparked a humanitarian crisis.
Mudavadi, who also serves as Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, is representing President William Ruto in the talks, which bring together key global actors including representatives from the UK, US, AU, and IGAD. Sources say Mudavadi is expected to push for an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a transitional civilian-led government.
“The time for peace is now,” Mudavadi told reporters upon arrival in London. “Kenya is committed to supporting Sudan’s return to stability and democracy.”
The UK summit marks a significant step in regional diplomacy, with Nairobi positioning itself as a mediator in East Africa’s complex geopolitics. Analysts say Kenya’s involvement could lend new momentum to stalled negotiations.
The outcome of these talks could shape the future of Sudan — and set the tone for African-led peace initiatives in the region.
