Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence. The Future.

A decade ago  Instagram, Uber, Tik Tok and WhatsApp didn’t exist. Ten years on and we have giant software multinational corporations. Let’s just say their balance sheet runs in the billions of dollars not to mention they get to keep your data for free.

Anyways, on their horizon there seems a cloud is forming, one of a new dawn, a new era. The thing is technology is just about on the edge of another major revolution. You remember the 90’s and early 2000’s when internet was becoming a thing and social media was a newbie? Facemash , now Faceboo,k was just getting incepted into the global community. Now Facebook runs a big chunk whole chunk by itself of the vast industry.

Artificial intelligence is the most fascinating of them all and you know why? It’s going to change everything you know about your devices; I mean phones, refrigerators, vehicles, laptops, advertisements, medicine and every other aspect that can be incorporate AI. I’m sure you’ve heard of Tesla by now, the revolutionary carmaker. Yup.  That’s all part of the process. In a few years, you won’t have to drive to work-your car will literally do all that thanks to Artificial Intelligence. Just feed your destination and relax, you’ll be there in a jiffy.

Virtual Reality. What exactly is Virtual Reality? For newbies, Virtual Reality is the use of computer technology to create a simulated environment, one in which you can learn or be entertained. The most recognizable component of VR is the head-mounted display (HMD) which projects the virtual world into the wearer’s eyes making it seem real considering humans are visual beings. By simulating as many senses as possible including vision, hearing, touch and even smell, the computer acts as the passage between actual reality and virtual reality. Some of the major players include HTC Vive, Facebook’s Oculus Rift and PlayStation’s VR (PSVR).Facebook seems particularly interested in this technology with Zuckerberg terming it as a new social tool.

Augmented Reality on the other hand is an interactive experience of a real world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple-sensory modalities including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

Augmented Reality simulates artificial objects into the real world while Virtual Reality creates an artificial environment to inhabit. In AR, algorithms and sensors determine the position and orientation of the camera. AR technology then renders the 3D graphics as they would appear from the viewpoint of the camera, superimposing the computer-generated images over a user’s view of the real world. I

All this technology can be incorporated to improve various disciplines including medicine, education, gaming and entertainment as a whole.
